Printing and Output

  • Mac OS and Windows: If you import a picture into a picture box with a frame, position the image so that it touches the frame, and then export the layout in PDF format with OPI Active checked (File > Export > Layout as PDF > Options button > OPI pane), the image shifts in the box in the exported PDF.
  • Mac OS and Windows: QuarkXPress generates blank output when multi-ink colorized images contain only spot colors.
  • Mac OS and Windows: You might need to click Capture Settings in the Print dialog box to properly update the Page Position options in the Device options pane of the Print dialog box.
  • Mac OS: If more than one account exists on your computer and you install QuarkXPress, the Missing Profiles alert displays at launch and the pages are blank when you output or print files that contain a colored item.

Graphics and Pictures

  • Mac OS: If the name of a folder contains certain characters (for example, Greek characters) and you choose Utilities > Usage, each picture imported from that folder will be listed incorrectly as No Disk File in the Usage dialog box.
  • Mac OS: If an imported picture includes certain characters in the file name (for example, certain Greek or Czech characters), the picture is not collected when you choose File > Collect for Output.
  • Mac OS: If a folder from which you import a picture contains a period in its name, the following incorrect error message displays: "Cannot access XPress Preferences [12]."
  • Windows XP: Updating a missing picture that is stored on a mapped network drive changes the file name into all-capital letters (for example, "Picture" becomes "PICTURE").

Language issues

  • Mac OS: QuarkXPress flags words with the French ligature "œ" as incorrect spelling.
  • Mac OS X only: If you use the Greek operating system, words with capital letters hyphenate only if you uncheck Break Capitalized Words (Edit > H&Js).
  • Mac OS: If you check Accents for All Caps in the Character pane of the Preferences dialog box (QuarkXPress/Edit menu), accented Greek characters are not capitalized when you apply the All Caps type style.
  • Mac OS and Windows XP: If you use Greek characters in a QuarkXPress 6.5 project and then open the project in QuarkXPress 7.0 or QuarkXPress 7.01 (Mac OS), the characters overlap.
  • Mac OS and Windows: When you open a multiple-language QuarkXPress Passport® project in a single-language version of the software, choose File > Export > Layout as Project, and then choose 6.0 from the Version drop-down menu, you must save the project as a multiple-language file.
  • Mac OS: If you use the Swedish operating system, some keyboard shortcuts do not work correctly (for example, the keyboard shortcut for File > Import Picture).
  • Mac OS X and Windows XP: If you set the QuarkXPress program language to German or Swiss German, the keyboard shortcut for Indent Here does not work.
  • Mac OS and Windows: The Change Case command (Style menu) and the All Caps and Small Caps type styles do not work properly with the German Esset character (ß) or the Turkish dotless i (ι).
  • Windows XP: You cannot use the Shift key to enter uppercase characters with certain Polish accent marks (although Caps Lock works in most cases).

Miscellaneous

  • Mac OS: The "Print Color As," "As is," and "DeviceN" controls are not available for AppleScript® Scripting.
  • Windows XP: QuarkXPress quits unexpectedly when an obstruction spans a full column of hyphenated text that contains fixed leading and forces the text to wrap. This issue also occurs when the text breaks in the middle of a ligature and under similar conditions.
  • Mac OS and Windows: The Indent Here setting is not maintained across linked text boxes.
  • Mac OS: If you use the Indent Here character at the start of a multiple-line paragraph and then interactively resize the text box, characters display outside the box.
  • Mac OS and Windows: Item names with accents are ordered incorrectly in the Auxiliary Dictionary and Hyphenation Exceptions dialog boxes and the Index and Lists palettes.
  • Mac OS and Windows: QuarkXPress quits unexpectedly when you display a layout page that is based on a master page that contains a Drop Shadow applied to both a group and its items.
  • Mac OS and Windows: QuarkXPress quits unexpectedly under different conditions when hyphenating text using justified alignment.
  • Windows XP: QuarkXPress fails to launch if you also install the Yahoo!® browser provided with DSL service from Southwestern Bell Communications (SBC) (now part of AT&T®).
  • Mac OS: Text wraps to the next line when you apply negative tracking to a text selection that includes the Right Indent Tab character.
  • Mac OS and Windows XP: When you open a document created in an earlier version of QuarkXPress that contains a soft return (Shift-Return) after a right tab, the text is positioned incorrectly.
  • Mac OS and Windows XP: Text position fails to update when you use the Tabs tab of the Measurements palette to set a new tab stop and subsequently reposition the tab stop in the ruler that displays above the text box.
  • Mac OS and Windows: Tab alignment fails to update properly when tab stops on multiple lines follow soft returns (Shift-Return).
